EDIT (2/10/18): Since we have Discord and other means to brainstorm ideas now, I've closed this thread in order to minimize any potential confusion.
Let me just preface this real quick by saying my intent behind this thread is not to step on anyone's toes here (particularly Shark's), or to try to force things to happen. This is merely to open up any discussion, as far as new, original content on VGDC.
That being said, I think the most obvious starting point of a discussion like this is "ROTMK 5" as a tribute to Randy Solem, or perhaps a brand new epic, dramatic movie series altogether?
Now, I can't make full Flash movies (sprite or drawn) worth a shit (not without some serious practice, which would take time I just don't have in my adult life, and most likely never will). But I am willing to help out in whatever ways possible, whether that be contributing ideas that others with the talent can help bring to life, or even voice acting (a narrator and/or announcer, for example).
As for ideas and "ROTMK 5" as a tribute or a new dramatic movie series, I propose we accomplish both goals at the same time.
Now, of course, whether or not all of what I just mentioned above can actually be accomplished via animating sprites in Flash, I don't know. But making a completely brand new series and preserving the ROTMK initials to dedicate the movie to Randy, to me, is the perfect idea to move forward with.

Quote:Revolution Of The Mushroom Kingdom
It's abbreviated as ROTMK, purely out of respect to Randy and complete with a dedication graphic at the start, but it's still a new series entirely.
I'm envisioning something along the lines of "....a brigade of rogue Toads storm Princess Peach's castle on an otherwise ordinary, peaceful day, take her hostage, and publicly behead her with a guillotine outside of the castle. The next scene would be Peach's funeral.... (this would be my way of paying homage to the controversy surrounding Mario's murder/funeral from ROTMK 1. Randy always used to say he would get angry emails from mothers who would say their children are now traumatised for having seen Mario's death. I want to duplicate that, lol.)"
The entire series, however many parts it turns out to be, could then build towards the big reveal of the mastermind. Not Bowser though, it needs to be someone within the Mushroom Kingdom, someone Peach thought she could trust.
Bowser would be a natural suspect, but he's proven innocent (another homage, this time to ROTMK 2) and joins up with Mario and his troops instead of being murdered by rabid Yoshis (hey, we can't duplicate everything).
You could even have Luigi betray Mario and join the insurgents by playing up the jealously angle there, but then have him realize he made a horrible mistake, or make him out to be a double agent.
