Hey guys.

I'm a VGDC Forums veteran of 10 years. It was the first internet forum I became utterly fanscinated by and it'll always have a special place in my heart. I haven't really been keeping up with VGDC culture over the past several years but I did hear that Randy Solem passed away a few years ago. I just wanted to say that I am utterly heartbroken over such news.

Anyhow, I'm also not sure if I'll be a regular poster at all given I mostly lurk on internet message boards. I was wondering if that is an issue. (in one of the past reincarnations of the forums--specifically the mid-late 2008 variation--I went to log in one day to find out that my account was deleted by the moderation team due to inactivity, and that it wasn't just my account, but ALL inactive accounts. To me that was really ridiculous given I initially donated money to the site to help keep it afloat. I am just trying to make sure that something like that doesn't occur again.)

Hey guys,

This is gonna be kind of a long post, but there's a lot of stuff that I wanna say to as much of you as possible.

My name's Yousif. I know a couple of you will remember me as "Alk".

I honestly don't know if I'll be visiting here a lot, but I just wanna tell y'all basically why I keep coming back.

Shit, I remember first joining here when I was 11 years old. I found VGDC off of the "affiliates" page of Knox Korner, a website for clay animations one of my few childhood friends showed me. That's when I first saw Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom and heard of Randy Solem, so I sent him a fanletter about something that I can't quite remember, and then he put up my letter on the website, so that's what initially gave me the courage to join, under the name "a little kid", cuz I figured I'd be the youngest dude there and everyone else would be like animation gods or something, haha.

I wanna thank every one of you for being there for me. This is because around the time when I moved at age 11 from California to Egypt, it was honestly one of the most confusing and shocking moments of my life. I was already a pretty weird kid, but I had to leave my few treasured friends behind and live in my grandma's apartment with my cousins in one of the busiest, hottest areas of Cairo city. Imagine having to go through your weird little awkward pubescent phase of your life while literally being unable to talk to anybody. Truth is, I didn't pick up very well in Arabic until like 16.

So for about 5 years, give or take, it was you guys. You guys stuck with me. You couldn't stand my 11 year old ass at first, and I don't blame you, but all that really mattered to me was we were all kind of like-minded people that I could actually speak to. While I was ridiculed for doodling mario and my Alk character in my notebooks, my slow-ass arabic, and my ugly oversized school uniform (I was too tall for any of the other sizes they had), it was you guys who I could trust to not reject me, or fight me, or make me feel alone. With no friends, my father being away to work in other countries, and my mother being too busy to really listen to me, I probably would've killed myself without you guys.

So now I'm 20. How about that shit, guys? Yeah, haha, I've been doing okay lately, but a while ago I was in kind of a dark place in my mind because of some things that had happened to me. As I was sort of crawling out of that depression, I was looking through some old drawings of mine and found Alk and Clayman, and I remembered Jonbro leaving in a little Alk drawing in his Riddleschool game, and I remembered that dumbass mspaint "V2" comic I made haha, and then I remembered VGDC. I remembered staying up til 8 am in the chatbox so I could talk to you guys because of the time difference, I remembered MOOT's Badime reviews, I remembered the K-On craze, the release of the 4th RotMK, shittyart, Johnny, WeaponTheory, The Triumvirate or AshtrayHeart, Dustin, Zonic, Shark, 655321. I remembered a guy named KuN who was threatening to ban me when I was 11, and hahaha I was begging him not to like a little bitch hahahaha.

I remembered all of you guys. I remembered how people were asking about what had happened to me during the Egyptian revolution where we were overthrowing Mubarak's regime, asking me if I died and shit haha. It sounds silly, but it was good to kinda know that people actually cared.

Right now, my life is kind of in a crazy place, and I'm really trying to get my shit together, but so far it looks like I can do it. I've got a little animation project coming on the way, but I don't wanna talk too much about it in case I don't do it. It's kind of like when you tell somebody you're going to the gym, lol. But if I ever do it, the first people I want to see this thing is you guys.

In any case, I know that not everybody from the old VGDC clique is here, but I stumbled upon this forum while looking at the old VGDC website for nostalgia, and I honestly almost cried a bit when I saw people still posting, so I just wanna say this to all of you guys, even the ones who aren't here right now, even the ones who might not remember me: I love you. Thank you so much. You guys might not know it, but you really saved my life.

Anyways, yeah, that's really all I have to say right now. I'm not really sure how to end this, so here's some of Moot's goofy-ass mug :moot hahaha

Well well well, alk grew up. I guess he's now a little adult? Don't think that fits right. Although I was wondering what was going in with you. You seemed to stop posting videos on YouTube a while ago. Some were pretty funny. As it is, it's good to know you're doing well and weird that your life has been altered by us. By the way, when you were 11, I was 23. Holy shit the time.

Hi, I am Axess.
I was a huge fan of Randy and his ROTMK series.
I used to post on the forums a bit back in the golden age but was never one of the "popular" kids.
I still try to animate stuff even though I have no artistic skill.
This is like the 4th time introducing myself here lol
