Something I realized. Now, I have absolutely no concrete evidence if this actually happened, but I think there's something there.
Bayonetta beating everyone in the poll in Europe I'm not too surprised about. Same for her being in the top for NA.
Still, what about the rest of the popular entries? I think going on social media sites and forums at least gives you some idea what people voted for. Especially considering how much people bitch every time there was a new announcement. It doesn't take a genius to figure out who people wanted in Smash the most. At least, regarding who Nintendo even had a chance to attain (THEN AGAIN WE GOT CLOUD SO I GUESS ANYTHING IS FUCKING POSSIBLE).
Still, people thought (for some reason) that they were going to use the ballot to bring in like 5 new fighters. Obviously that isn't the case. But did you ever consider them at least looking at the other characters that made it high in the ballot? It looks like my theory is clear, that most of the mii fighter outfits came from the ballot. After all, everyone cried foul whenever a new outfit was shown. It's pretty obvious just about all the outfits are based off of characters a lot of people voted for.
Sakurai definitely looked at each one;
"K. Rool? Too fat and irrelevant."
"Zero? Nah, Megaman doesn't need another rep."
"Knuckles? Too gay and dumb."
But he figured at least a way to appease those people in a cheap and quick way is to provide mii outfits. Just another case of good intentions leading to bad feedback.
People are now asking "what about the ballot results? What about those who got a high amount of votes?"
Fellas . . . you're looking at it.
