I'm a Systems Engineer. I gather Point of Interest databases that we source from other companies and merge them into one final compile for vehicle navigation systems. The job itself is pretty easy and has tons of downtime... which can get very boring at times. Sometimes I get dragged into other parts of our business due to my department being small, even though the company itself is huge, and I end up assisting in contract renewals, negotiations, and sometimes travel for conferences.

Damn, master of annoyance actually talked?? I can see that i missed those days. Well your boy hipster here works at a Hotel. I'm currently the Guest Service Manager/Weekend Manager. Anything related to the Front Desk I'm in charge of. You want an upgrade? Fuck you. You want extra pillows? Fuck you. You want to be moved so that you're next to your grandma who you're visiting? Get the fuck out of my hotel. All jokes aside, I manage the front desk, making sure that my staff are all well mannered, knowledgable, and independent enough to handle any minor issue. You'd be surprised as to how many people cannot wipe their ass(not literally).

Some of my duties:
-Make the schedule every week. Which is a bitch because everyone and their mothers request's days off.
-paperwork.
-paperwork.
-more paperwork.
-answer guest complaints/compliments/emails/questions.
-make orders
-manage the breakfast department.
-deposits
-make sure everything is up and running. Most of the time if theres any issue my boss will tell me to contact someone to fix it. So i make a ton of calls.

I really enjoy working in the Hospitality industry. I get to meet quite a few people from around the world. I also get to go to fancy awards ceremonies for hotels lol. There are these workshops around the US that help employees really unlock their potential in the Hospitality business. Whenever theres one here in Texas, i get to go! We've had some people from Hampton corportate stay with us. I made such an impression that they remembered my birthday as it fell during a workshop day. They brought cake! I was pretty damn stoked.

Since about 2009 I've been working at an Italian restaurant. Slowly worked my way up from washing dishes to being a cook. Graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science around this time last year so I've just been looking for a job so I can stop smelling like pizza toppings and marinara sauce. (Also, the better pay would be nice, not that I'm at minimum wage right now.)
moot

Well, in less than 11 hours, I begin my new role as a "senior" fraud analyst.  It's not that significant of a bump up the ladder in terms of pay and title (team lead and shift supervisor are still above me), but it's actually a promotion.

Not only have I been with this company for four years as of mid-November, but this marks my very first promotion ever, instead of my job being eliminated as I'm accustomed to having happen.

Like I said, it's not a major step up, but I will start learning the ropes and gaining some supervisory experience.  There are very rare occasions where our team lead and shift supervisor are both on vacation on the same night (or one gets sick and it's the other one's off night), so I need to be ready to keep the ship under control when it's required.

I bet you were like "Oh shit, not again" when they asked to privately talk to you. ???

Nah, fortunately there was no such private meeting. The entire process was done very formally.  The position was posted on their internal jobs intranet page, anyone interested applied, a select few got interviews, and I got hired. The only thing I had to worry about was that I might possibly be not selected.
