Super Mario Maker is out, and this brings us another opportunity to pit VGDCers against each other in retro themed creative competitions. So please invite friends to sign up to vgdc and participate!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

MC KOOPA Goal: Create a 4 level adventure, sticking with just one game style through out  your custom created world.
The final level MUST be a castle. Post the links to your 4 levels in order in this thread as you finish.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

MC KOOPA Bonus Goal: To score some bonus points, create a custom box art in your desired image editing software to promote your Mario Maker "World"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

MC KOOPA Voting: The winner will be determined by myself, unless the contest turn out is good enough that we can do a large user vote for the winner.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

GOOD LUCK HAVE FUN! Please post any related questions or comments in this thread, thanks!
Wow, I actually made a few of these myself. I just gotta figure out which set to upload.
I gotta buy the game, FFFUUUUUUUU.
$50 eShop card you mean?

I'll see if I can make a couple of levels once I get ideas.

Deadline: November 1st Prize: $50 Nintendo Points Card

Holy cow....an actual prize? That's a first for VGDC, if I'm not mistaken. :moot

At the very least, it has to be the first prize that's of monetary value.
Okay, instead of making new ones entirely, I decided to just use a set of courses I already made. I tried making them tough, but not too annoyingly tough. They are all in the Super Mario Bros style.

Almost Easy: 020D-0000-00B7-5C60

Cave Of No Return: 2C69-0000-00B7-5EBB

Don't Look Down!: F492-0000-00B7-621A

Bowser's Castle: 9037-0000-00B7-629F
Ill alow premade courses this time but next round it would be much nicer to have course made specifaccly for the contest, ill give em a play soon

BTW im downloading the course and playing them as wrolds with 3 lives.. so have maybe be a litte nice iwth hidding extra 1ups in your levels lol

I got to level 2 on your levels so far. you are a fuckin asshole ill say that.. but damned be, i will fucking beat it

The only potential problem with that (especially if you require all 4 levels to be in the style of the same series) is Nintendo only allows for 10 courses to be uploaded at a time, unless they acquire 50 or more stars.

Heck, I found myself running into this problem even with you allowing premade courses. I already had 10 courses uploaded, but I didn't have 4 all of the same style (nor did I consider them good enough to win a contest). Luckily, 3 of my stages had no stars awarded to them, so I was able to pull those offline to start making replacement stages per the terms of the contest.

At the end of the day, it's your contest. You're the one generously awarding a more than decent prize. But asking people to potentially surrender their existing acquired stars is something you should probably keep in mind for future contests. It may, or may not, negatively affect the turnouts.
Alas, now I am faced with a dilemma. Do I submit my four levels done in the style of SMB1 that are already finished? Or because I have just one level done in the style of SMW that I really, really like (and evidently, others do to, as it's one of my highest rated), do I struggle to come up with 3 more SMW levels?

Decisions...decisions...

Yeah if this kind of contest happens again, I will for sure make new courses.

And those courses can be a bit tough, but I've gotten a bit generous with lives later on. I didn't wanna just throw like 20 extra lives each at the end of every course. There are a few hidden blocks scattered about.
